Ruby Gordon - Lone

$375.00

Acrylic painting on wooden canvas
12x12cm

Good Morning Manly explores my connection to the coastline around Manly and Shelly Beach, a place I return to often and know through repeated observation. I am drawn to the quiet rhythm of this stretch of coast in the early morning, when the landscape begins to come alive, and people move through it in their own individual ways.

I am interested in the relationship between people and the places they inhabit. Swimmers entering the water, people sitting on the rocks, walking along the edge of the ocean or simply stopping to look all become part of the landscape. These everyday moments are familiar and often overlooked, yet they contribute to the character and memory of a place.

Through these paintings, I am interested in the act of looking closely and finding significance in ordinary moments. The larger scene holds multiple figures within the landscape, while the smaller work isolates one person, allowing them to become the focus of attention. Together, the works reflect my fascination with observing people and place, and the sense of familiarity, calm and belonging that comes from returning to somewhere again and again.
