Acrylic & texture paste on canvas
50.5×50.5cm, Framed
Fairy Floss Corymbia Ficifolia is part of my Tree Portraits series, which celebrates individual trees growing in our everyday surroundings. This portrait captures a specimen on Bellevue Street in Chatswood West. The sculptural surface, together with the play of sunlight, reveals the remarkable range of colour found in Australia's urban landscape.
By identifying each tree by name and location, I hope to encourage a closer connection with the places we live. Many remarkable trees stand just beyond our front doors, yet often go unnoticed. Through these portraits, I invite viewers to recognise them not simply as background scenery, but as distinctive living landmarks with their own identity.
