I have been making art in many forms all life. It's a huge part of my life whether I’m drawing, painting, performing as a jazz vocalist or teaching art . I am chiefly a story teller whether it’s in music , painting or teaching . I enjoy these different forms and they have a dialogue with, as well as feed each other. I am inspired by the emotional response I feel with singing certain songs ,and the improvisation that the music pulls from me. In the same way I am drawn into the emotions and memories that arise from looking at a bundle of objects on a dining table and the desire to immerse myself in it these, through really studying and drawing /painting them and the space they inhabit .
These works are part of my exploration of the meanings that objects and spaces leave us with. The dining table can hold so much meaning . In the course of a day it can be transformed from a place to eat and connect with family or hold space for creating and making. I’m interested in looking ,painting and drawing objects and spaces that speak of memory and affect our senses and emotions as well as invite us to enjoy the colours, patterns ,shapes ,light and textures they hold when combined. I have inherited my dining table , it was the table I sat at as a child at many family meals and occasions . It now carries on the tradition with my children and their children . A place to connect ,eat ,share birthdays, special occasions ,Christmas & Easter, as well as simple afternoons making art with my granddaughter.
