Sunny South - Blueberry Bowl

$270.00

Acrylic on canvas
18x18cm, framed

Small Stills is the painting practice of Sunny South, working from her riverside studio on Dangar Island on the Hawkesbury River, New South Wales. Painting in acrylic on handmade paper, canvas, and wood panel, the work centres on intimate still life compositions and open seascapes — finding stillness in the everyday. Each painting begins with close observation: the particular fall of light across a jar, the way a tide reads silver or sunset against sandstone, the quiet weight of a cup or cloth. Objects are chosen for their ordinariness, their capacity to hold attention without demanding it. The palette is restrained — earthy, coastal, anchored in place. These are small paintings each one an attempt to hold a moment a little longer than it would otherwise last.
