Growing up, we had a room in the house filled with blue and white Delftware, the ‘special plates’ that were not used for dining, purely for decoration. This painting aims to evoke the familiarity and nostalgia that I feel towards these pieces. I’m drawn to exploring textures and the wet shine of sardines provides a fascinating subject matter.
