Perri Huggett - They Cut My Tail Off But It Grew Back

$800.00

Acrylic, oil & pencil on canvas

30x30cm, framed

They Cut My Tail Off but It Grew Back explores the ways women are often expected to remain small, quiet, and unthreatening. The work reflects the experience of having ambition, confidence or success diminished by a culture that is quick to cut women down when they begin to stand too tall. Like the myth of the poppy, the act of cutting is intended to keep us contained, but growth is persistent. The tail becomes a symbol of femininity, strength, and identity; something that may be severed, criticised, or taken away, but ultimately cannot be erased.
