Pencils on Paper
42x59.4cm, Framed
As an artist, I draw a lot of inspiration from my life experiences, and this piece is a vivid reflection of the rich tapestry of diverse cultures I've encountered while growing up in Australia.
My inspiration for this piece originates from our cherished weekend tradition of going to yum cha. For my family, this practice was a bridge to our heritage, a way to stay connected.
As a child, I was entranced by the subtle differences that unfolded during these outings. Encounters like soft drinks on the yum cha menu, discovering that it was entirely acceptable to eat with one's hands, and the delightful surprise of fortune cookies provided a profound understanding of the beautiful fusion of two cultures.
