Acrylic on Birch
30x40cm
I see the magpie not as a scavenger, but as a tender guardian of the things we leave behind. In this work, I've captured a moment where natural instinct gives way to a profound kind of stewardship. As the bird takes flight with a kite, marked by the delicate, honest scribbles of a child, it isn't just carrying an object; it's carrying a fragment of innocence.
The vibrant red thread is a deliberate lifeline, a tether that weaves through the air to connect the wildness of the sky with the grounded reality of our domestic lives. I wanted to explore that intersection where the ancestral meets the whimsical, suggesting that even in the act of taking, there is a conscious effort to preserve the fragile blueprints of memory and play. To me, this piece is a witness to growth, a study of how the strength of those who watch over us rises up to support the ascending dreams of the ones coming next.
